We advertise events and training of interest to clients, staff and volunteers of voluntary organisations in Middlesbrough. We can advertise your event or training on our website for free.
Role of the Trustee Part 1
12 January 2026 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
This is part one of two sessions exploring the role of the trustee (or member of a committee). Ruth Barnes and John Atkinson present this two hour training session in an informal manner that invites attendees to ask questions to help gain a sound understanding of this important foundational role within the Voluntary and Community Sector.
Please make sure you can attend both sessions. The second session will be held at 6pm on Monday 9 February 2026.
Find a Funder Workshop
13 January 2026 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Find a Funder is a simple and easy to use funding search website provided by Middlesbrough Council in partnership with MVDA. Workshop sessions demonstrate how the Find a Funder website works and how the get the best out of it. Sharon Barker from Middlesbrough Council and John Atkinson from MVDA will run one or two live searches using ideas the groups represented in the room and their current search for funds. In the second part of the session, Sharon and John will provide advice on how to make more successful funding applications, and how to avoid common mistakes.
Basic Bid Writing Course
14 January 2026 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm
This two-hour session will support Middlesbrough’s Voluntary and Community Sector organisations to develop stronger, more successful funding applications. Ruth Barnes and John Atkinson have lots of experience writing funding applications and will share tips and ideas to help you to secure funding from more of your applications.

This is the second part of our training for trustees and others who are responsible for running Voluntary Sector Organisations. This is a two hour session that will build on the previous (part one) training. Ruth Barnes and John Atkinson have many years' experience setting up and running charities and associations; they will help participants to understand the role and help them to run successful charitable organisations.
